  • Smackdown Dominance. RAW weakness.

    Posted on 4/2/08 10:21 AM

At Wrestlemania 24, we saw Smackdown Dominance. Not only did Smackdown get to close the show for the first time since WM 19 but Kane won the ECW Title and Batista pinned Umaga in the battle for brand supremacy.

RAW has been the flagship brand for a while but the WWE chose to put over Smackdown in a big way at Mania 24. I think this reveals some major weaknesses in RAW.

First Randy Orton as champion on RAW is average at best. He provides minimal excitement in his matches or on the mic. IMHO, a feud with JBL just doesn't seem that interesting. Randy seems better suited to be the hunter rather than the hunted. I was surprised to see him defend at Mania. Orton's reign has lasted too long just like Cena's reign before him.

Secondly, Jeff Hardy's loss was huge for RAW. Hardy is exactly what RAW needs right now. A high energy, exciting face to challenge for and eventually carry the belt. Sadly this may never happen given Hardy's problems.

Lastly, RAW needs some new blood. Triple H, Orton, Cena and HBK are great workers but over exposure has made them predictable and stale. It's time to shuffle the deck, move talent around and push some new blood. It looks like Batista is coming to RAW. That's good. Kennedy and Carlito should be more prominently used on RAW. Kennedy in particular could be a great heel champ. I'd like to see Y2J defend the IC belt frequently against varied opponents. I'd also like to see CM Punk use that MITB Contract and challenge for the WWE Title. He could be the replacement for Hardy that is sorely needed.

This is my opinion, what do you guys think?

  • Who's Your Champion?

    Posted on 2/8/08 3:24 PM

Which one of these RAW superstars (who has either never been champ or hasn't been champ in a long time) should get a run with the WWE title in 2008 and why?

    Chris Jericho
    Jeff Hardy
    Mr. Kennedy
    Shawn Michaels
    Ric Flair

I'd like to see Hardy get a run just because he's so over with the fans right now and he's been a border line main eventer for a few years now. I'd love to see what he could do as "THE MAN" for a few months.

I'm curious who you guys think deserves the gold this year!

1

Ric Flair

#1 ALL TIME. Thanks for the memories. WOOOOOOO!!!

2

Randy Orton

Defended the title at Mania against all odds. As he said, he deserves our respect.

3

Undertaker

16 and 0!!! Nuff said.

4

Kane

Beat 24 guys to get a shot at the ECW Title then destroyed Chavo. Should bring respect back to ECW Title.

5

Shawn Michaels

To be the man you have to beat the man. HBK not only beat the man at Mania, but he ended the man's career.

6

CM Punk

Surprisingly won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Hopefully he'll use it on a world title.

7

Shelton Benjamin

Deserves some love for carrying the MITB Ladder Match.

8

John "Bradshaw" Layfield

Beat the crap out of Finlay and brawled himself into Title contention.

9

Batista

Beat Umaga at Mania for a Smackdown sweep.

10

The Big Show

By jobbing to Mayweather at the request of the company he proves that he's a good worker and good professional.
