  • Where is the wrestling industry headed?

    Posted on 1/21/07 8:56 AM

I posted this on a message board, and after reading it, I was kind of impressed with what I wrote. Here is the main focal point of the post I made:

The wrestling industry as a whole is really intriguing right now. TNA is really starting to pick up some serious steam since it opened it's doors due to big names coming in, great storytelling both in and out of the ring, and new, interesting preformers who are making serious names for themselves. The WWE, though solid as a company and making a serious profit due to their excellent services (their top notch DVD releases as well as their WWE 24/7 service), is putting out a television product that is incredibly mediocre and lacking that one thing that could really bring more people in. The WWE seems to be trying to please everybody with their multiple brands (Using Raw for their "entertainment" fans, ECW for their "hardcore" fans, and Smackdown for their "wrestling" fans).

The most interesting aspect of the wrestling industry really doesn't come from TNA vs WWE though. It comes from a new promotion that could force the WWE to act, and that promotion is Wrestling Society X. With the WWE pushing ECW as it's "Extreme" brand, it will be facing off against a wrestling promotion that will focus on and push heavily on the spotfest style that hardcore wrestling fans are looking for. Plus, if the MTV crowd picks up on WSX and the show actually takes off, you can garantee it will force Vince McMahon to act, and that could be either good or bad for the wrestling industry. It could be something as simple as pushing for a move to a different night or time (which would be good), or it could lead to Vince copying WSX and turning ECW into nothing more than a spotfest backyard type promotion (very, very bad!). Hell, if WSX becomes huge, it could lead to the downfall of ECW, and a lot of good wrestlers losing their jobs in favor of "Vince guys". Hell, after saying all of that, it could be just as possible that WSX is a total failure and that it makes some people in TNA's power take a step back and say "let's stay away from that type of battle for right now", which could be very good or very bad (depending on the state of TNA at the time).

    ..........

Feel free to tell me what you think of that post. Do you think I'm right? Am I accurate about my feelings on the wrestling industry or am I just over analyzing it?

    Basically.........discuss.

Rank Wrestler
1

Undertaker

15-0.......Nothing more needs to be said.

2

Bobby Lashley

Won against Umaga and is getting a huge push. Not much else he could ask for.

3

John Cena

I may not like it, but John Cena is still the champion. Who the hell is gonna stop his reign??

4

Mr. Kennedy

The newest Mr. Money in the Bank seems to be a shoe in for a championship reign in the near future.

5

Shawn Michaels

He lost, but he is still at the top of his game and still in the hunt. His title chase doesn't seem to be over yet, and it may even end the way we want it to.

6

CM Punk

Impressive showings at Wrestlemania and on ECW this week. Things with the New Breed are going to be heating up now.

7

The Great Khali

Beat Kane at Wrestlemania and still looks as imposing as ever. Plus now he seems to have found a niche for himself.

8

Melina

Thankfully, she beat Ashley at Wrestlemania. Now she will focus on an actual opponent in Mickie James.

9

Batista

He may have lost to Taker, but he made his stake very clear: REMATCH! If it's as good as the Mania match was, I'm all for it.

10

Elijah Burke

Elijah came out looking like the big star in the fantastic extreme rules 8 man on ECW. Props to all of them on a great match.
