He just received a slap on the wrist because his dad is Hulk Hogan. If he was a regular person like me or anyone else he'd get at least three years. Nicks friend John, the person that was in the accident with Hogan, had a piece of his brain taken out and now has to receive medical treatment for the rest of his life, yeah some friend. . . .

I totally disagree. Nick had just turned 17 and was hanging out with a bunch of adults. To me eight months seems kind of harsh.

What the fuck is Nick doing drinking at age 17? There's no possible way to justify a smaller sentence. He was four years below the legal drinking age, was driving under the influence, and his reckless driving caused his passanger to be fucked up for the rest of his life. If anything, 8 months is too lenient.

Nick was street racing with his friends, and he was the youngest out of all of them. Not to leave him totally blameless, but you would think the adults would smarten up and be like - hey, maybe the drunk 17 year old shouldn't be racing?

To be fair, his BAL was well under the limit of someone who's of legal drinking age. He wasn't charged with drunk driving, he was charged with operating a vehicle with a BAL of 0.02 or higher while under the legal drinking age.
He also has trained as a pro racer, and blamed his crash on wet roads. He was going somewhere between 60 and 70 MPH in a 40 zone.
Everyone else in the crash came out fine, the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
The felony Nick was charged with has a maximum sentence of five years. The nature of the injury and the fact that the passenger was not wearing his seatbelt probably had something to do with the sentence. 8 months is pretty reasonable, considering. The probation period-5 years-and the period in which his liscence will be suspended-3 years-are pretty harsh penalties. The jail time might be short but one celebrities do get some special treatment, two he entered a plea of no contest, three he wasn't completely at fault for the injuries, and four he's barely able to be tried as an adult. It's not JUST because he's a celebrity, and the judge didn't skimp on the harshness of the penalties not involving jail time.

Nick Hogan + booze + car + speed + racing = total disaster
he should get 3-5 yrs in jail with 5 years license suspension when he gets out
instead of 8 months and 3yrs license suspension

1) He was not drunk, he was over the legal limit for his age which is 0.02 (probably one beer/shot/glass of wine for someone his size).
2) They were not racing, they were driving fast. It wasn't like they got together and said, "we're gonna race," they were going to the same place in high-end cars and were trying to act tough. Stupid, yes, a little competitive in nature, yes, racing, no.
3)3-5 is not the standard for his crime. The standard is anywhere from 0-5. The victim not wearing his seatbelt+the victim not dying+Nick's age+a no contest plea=8 months. If we're just going to jump to conclusions and hand out the worst possible penalty, then why even have a justice system? Why not just go out and start forming lynch mobs right now?
