  • Lockdown/Raw Review : Which was better ????

    Posted on 4/15/08 1:36 AM

I should not be asking that question, but I am, because you see Lockdown was an o.k. ppv, 7/10 at the highest, some nice action, bad finishes, bad storytelling and even worse story progression.

But Raw was a gem, unlike last week's raw, this Raw delivered in match quality, surprises, story telling, promos, and overall enjoyment. After watching Raw I felt that I could have been happier ordering THAT instead of Lockdown...lets just begin the review shall we....

    Lockdown

X Title Escape Match featuring Jay Lethal(c), Sonjay Dutt, Curry Man, Shark Boy, Johnny Devine, and Consequences Creed ***

Good opening, good action and pretty sweet innovation. We saw Sonjay Dutt get surprisingly eliminated early with a roll up (the first of many at this pay per view). Soon after we saw Consequences Creed eliminate shark boy with A hammerlock ddt, which was nice. We saw Johnny Devine ( Iwas impressed by Devine in this match) attempt a Shooting star press and Don West called it " something crazy ". It came down to Machismo (who really did not do that much) against Devine, who really proved to me that he deserves to be the top heel in the X-Division. Machismo won when he dove to the outside to touch the floor before Devine could.

Queen of the Cage featuring Christy Hemme, Salinas, Jackie Moore, Traci Brooks, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Roxxi Laveaux and Rhaka Khan *3/4

This was retarded crap. I don't need to continue, the only thing good about this match was the progression of the Angelina Love/Velvet Sky vs Roxxi Lavauex feud. And the Voodoo drop by Roxxi was nice.

Kip James Vs BG James *

Initially i thought this could have been a decent match no matter how washed up these guys are. I was wrong, granted they only got 6 minutes, and it was a crappy 6 minutes. Kip dominated until the end when BG scored a pinfall via a roll up. Looks like there going to continue their feud since Kip turned on BG AGAIN !!! CRAP CRAP CRAP !!!

Cuffed in the Cage - Rock n Rave Infection vs. LAX vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Scott Steiner and Petey Williams vs. Rellik and Black Reign vs. Kaz and Eric Young **1/2

The concept of this match was just stupid albeit I have seen worse (see queen of the cage). But the action was good we got 2 really nifty spots, one where Lance Hoyt Choke Slammed Kaz from the turnbuckle to the mat which was sweet. And another where Kaz hit the flux capacitor on Jimmy Rave, which Rave sold beautifully. SUPER ERIC came out to the end of the match to squash Black Reign, Rellik (YAY !) and The Rock n Rave Infection (boo !!). Eric was the last man standing and He and Kaz won I guess, I dont know who cares lets move on.

Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed vs. Gail Kim and ODB **3/4

Nice little match here, which showed the true presence of the Women's division in TNA shine. It was decent but it could have been better considering Raisha Saeed can wrestle pretty well. Gail and ODB won...nice.

Booker T and Sharmell vs. Robert Roode and Ms. Payton Banks 1/4*

Yes, you read my rating right, ONE QUARTER OF A STAR ! I dont think I have ever seen a match as poorly booked like this. (Only Dutch Mantell can top himself)..I'm not even going to waste my fingers on this match.

Lethal Lockdown - Christian Cage, Sting, Rhino, Kevin Nash, and Matt Morgan vs. Tomko, AJ Styles, Team 3-D and James Storm **3/4

This match in my opinion was the worst lethal lockdown, it was ok though. There were way too many big guys in here to be really really good. This whole match just led to the spot with AJ and Christian. I really thought the spot was just good, not great, maybe dangerous as hell but it was not a HOLY FUCKING SHIT MOMENT..it was more of a OH DAMN MOMENT. Rhino picking up the victory I liked very much.

Six Sides of Steel TNA Title - Kurt Angle(c) vs. Samoa Joe ****

After watching it a second time I am dropping the rating a bit. I tend to agree though that this was a very good match, and an early match of the year candidate it was not as good as Taker/Edge OR Michaels/Flair and definitely not as good as Aries/Shiozaki. I am an MMA fan, and to be honest the firast half of the match with all the MMA stuff didn't work as well I thought it should have, it was good but again not great. When they brought in the Pro Wrestling aspect into it, thats where the match picked up. The ending came out of nowhere but it was still good. And it is a site of glory seeing Joe with THE TNA World Title.

    RAW

    HBK/Jericho Promo ***

Yes I am rating the promo, the words really didn't do much but the tension between the two, and Jericho turning into a bit of a heel was beautiful and SURPRISING ! One of TWO great surprises in the night.

Londrick vs Cantino #1 Contendership **1/2

This was a fun little tag match, and JR and Lawler were selling the tag belts like I ahve never seen them sold in the WWE. Yes, the tag division ,ight just have some life in it after all. I really dont like Cantino winning but their promo after the match was nice (Santino is a comic genius).

Women's Title - Beth Phoenix (c) Vs. Mickie James ***

This was there best match together, probably Beth Phoenix's best match since coming to the WWE. And remeber I said that there was another great surprise, well this was it. Mickie James picks up the victory and her 3rd Women's Championship. Oh Sweet Glory !

Regal backstage promo was just short and sweet. *1/2

    JTG Vs. Trevor Murdoch *1/4

I agve it an extra quarter because although this match was only 2 minutes long, the tension between Cade and Murdoch is great.

William Regal vs. Randy orton Non Title ***1/2

My god was this technically sound or what ?? This was a very good match, it told such a good story. Although it lasted only 10 minutes it was still good, not one minute went to waste as Regal pulled out the best in Orton. The finish was like every Randy Orton finish a sweet RKO out of nowhere.

    Y2J Vs. Umanga ! IC Title ***

This match was great. Umaga really impressed me in this match. It went as long as I thought it could to be just right. And Jericho pulling out his heel tactic to win was great.

Paul Birchull Vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan *

    Eh, whatever.

HHH Vs. JBL Pre Promo **

    .....yeah.....

    JBL Vs. HHH **1/2

This match should ahve been better than it was, but my god does JBL need to lose some weight. This is though wjhatyou would expect from these 2 on free tv. They only work hard on Pay Per Views don't you know. I swear if JBL wins at backlash (which he wont....right ?) I will boycott raw just like I am boycotting McDonald's for letting me not take a piss in their bathroom.

Ok so maybe Lockdown WAS better, but god not by much, and If I ahd to choose to either watch Last Night's Raw for free or to pay 30 dollars for Lockdown then you bet your ass I am going with the free RAW.

  • Top 15 Matches of 2008 (so far)

    Posted on 4/14/08 12:48 AM

1)Ric Flair Vs. Shawn Michaels Wrestlemania *****

Emotional roller coaster for me. It was a ton of fun and nice high spots by HBK. We saw flair do 3 variations of a suplex !! When was the last time we saw Flair put that much effort into a match ! Probably not since he faced Orton at Taboo Tuesday 2004.

2)Austin Aries Vs. Go Shiozaki ROH 6th Anniversary Show ****1/2

This show was a bit disappointing but this match here delivered big time ! Technically speaking it WAS better than Michaels and Flair but due to no real feud or storyline in this match besides it being billed as a dream match it lacks that extra something to amke it a 5 star classic.

3)Samoa Joe Vs. Kurt Angle Lockdown ****1/4

This match was epic. And I heard a lot of the fans complain that Joe should have gotten the title sooner I would have to agree but I am still so glad that Joe has FINNALY won the BIG ONE (in TNA). The MMA style build was just what TNA needed to do to keep Joe's title win important.

4)Edge Vs. The Undertaker Wrestlemania ****1/4

Say what you want about the built to this match, the Payoff was incredible. We got an amazing technically sound match which exceeded my expectations. Edge pulled off moves and counters that I have not seen him do in a very long time. These 2 really brought out the best in each other, and I am so glad this match went on last because it was very very good.

5)Jeff Hardy Vs. Shawn Micheals WWE Raw 2/11 ****1/4

This match here gets TV match of the year honors so far. It was a true spectacle watching these two go toe to toe and Shawn Michaels those what he always does and brings out the best in his opponents. While I can make the argument that Hardy did the same with Michaels, fact of the matter is, is that these 2 truly gave the fans in attendance there money's worth.

6)Kurt Angle Vs. Christian cage Against All Odds ****

While I hated the build of this match because of all the Angle Alliance Crap, This match truly shined on a lack luster card.

7)Kevin Steen Vs. Brent Albright ROH Transform ****

Hard Hiting, Brutal, Stiff Fest. This truly was the battle of the Bulls and I recommend this match to anyone who loves to see what big guys can REALLY do in the ring. BIG Daddy V, Mark henry and Khali need to start watching these behemoths and take some notes on how to put on a very good match.

    8)Miz Vs. CM Punk ECW 4/08 ***3/4

This was undoubtedly better then there match at Cyber Sunday alst year, and that match was pretty good. This was just good thats all, if you disagree and say its because the miz sucks..well then you haven't been keeping up with ECW or Samckdown.

9)Money In The Bank Wrestlemania ***2/3

This was just an excellent spot fest . . . .oh and CM Punk won !!

    10)Carlito Vs. Shelton Benjamin ECW 3/25 ***1/2

This was a good match. This was full of nice spots, good counter wrestling, and nice ring pshycology. I know that this was Dusty Rhodes last night booking so he mus ahve said to them this : "You lazy bastards have talent, now go out there and go beat the snot out of each other and prove to these people you have some god damn talent."

11)AJ Vs. Christian Vs. Joe TNA 1/17 ***1/2

This was good but I am sure that this could have been soooo Much better if they gave it more time and if Christian didn't win.

12)Jeff hardy Vs. Randy Orton Royal Rumble ***1/2

I loved this match. It should have gone about 10 more minutes. Hardy brought his A Game and Orton did what he can as well.

13)Jeff Hardy Vs Chris Jericho Raw 2/25 ***1/2

Another good TV match. This time on Raw, very fast paced and Jericho proved that he can make anybody look real technically sound, even Hardy who has been ridiculed for his lack of technical skill in the past, not in this amtch.

14)CM Punk Vs. John Morrison Smackdown 3/28 ***1/4

This was not as nearly as good as their match from ECW tv last year from when Punk won the title, but these two In My Opinion have put on the best series of matches the WWE fans have seen since Benoit and Booker T.

15)Erick Stevens Vs. Austin Aries ROH Proving Ground ***1/4

This match had a nice serious build around it, considering that these 2 were former stable mates until Aries disbanded the Resilience, which made the young Stevens furious and was out for redemption to prove to Aries that he should have never disbanded the group. With the story come great hard hitting stiff action, and the announcers Dave Prazak and Lenny Leonard do such a good job of selling the rivalry AND the match. Take some notes Micheal Cole And Coach.

Have a wonderful day, everyone....(I hope you all trip on hornswoggle after reading this awesome blog.

  • Rant on TNA Tag Team Champs

    Posted on 4/7/08 7:54 PM

-AJ Styles And Tomko = Irrelevant

These two are great athletes in their own right. But in my opinion they have no right being tag team champions at the moment. Now I will admit when they won the straps at Bound for Glory I was glad that a good tag team was holding the belts. An exciting tag team had won the straps. Then again the tag belts went through a 5 month period of unimportance with title holders like the aging team 3D, Samoa Joe By Himself, Kurt Angle By Himself then with Sting then to team pac man (I still shudder at that period of horror). So at Bound For Glory that all changed. An good tag team was holding the titles. A tag team of importance as they were aligned with Christian Cage, which gave them instant credibility of being the number one faction of TNA since the demise of LAX .

But in usual TNA fashion they managed to completely fuck up something so wonderful as a Great Faction like the Christian Coalition and for the past few months we have to be force fed the crap that is the ANGLE Alliance...not to mention we never know what is up with that faction. I mean are they even a unit ? are they trusting of each other ? and why in the hell should we care...but i digress.

So where does that lead us today you might ask. It leads us to one weak ass tag team division. Yes we have talented tag teams such as LAX and The Rock N Rave Infection not to mention the TNA tag team of the year for 2007 the Murder City Machine Gunz. Also Team 3D and the weird and horrible tag team of Black Reign And Rellik.

Its pretty sad of how TNA is booking the tag Titles. There making it look like Tomko and AJ's 2 main priorities are to get under neath the skin of Christian Cage, and to protect kurt Angle from Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash. I mean lets look at Tomko and Aj's last 5 pay per views shall we :

    Genesis 2007

Tomko and AJ Styles defeat The Steiner Brothers to retain the Tag Titles.

Ok no problem here. the steiners had a nice decent build up and the match wasnt horrible. Including Scott's promos leading up to the match were Steiner Funny.

    Grade = B-

    Turning Point 2007

    No Tag Title match

6-MAN TAG: Kevin Nash & Samoa Joe & Eric Young defeated The Angle Alliance (Kurt Angle & A.J. Styles & Tomko)..

    *sighs*

This is where the shit hits the fan. This pay per view was very bad in my opinion. Although this match wasnt bad it was not a pay per view match. Not even close. We see no tag title match and the of the burial of the tag titles begins.

Grade = N/A for no title match

    Final Resolution 2008

TAG TITLE MATCH: A.J. Styles & Tomko defeated Samoa Joe & Kevin Nash to retain the TNA World Tag Team titles..

This match was not as bad as i thought it would be, but if I remember correctly this was a filler match. A match to keep Joe busy. A match to progress Joe's frustration so that over shadowed the fact that this was A TITLE Match. If that is not bad enough this match was completely over shadowed by The AJ/Christian/Angle drama.

    Grade = D

    Against All Odds 2008

TAG TITLE MATCH: A.J. Styles & Tomko defeated B.G. James & Bullet Bob Armstrong to retain the TNA Tag Team titles..

Worst match of that whole card in my opinion...do i really need to say anymore. I mean at this point I had had all I could take with the burial of the Tag Titles...complete failure.

    Grade = F

    Destination X 2008

SIX-MAN-TAG: Samoa Joe & Kevin Nash & Christian Cage defeated Kurt Angle & A.J. Styles & Tomko..

So we get the same match from Turning Point, this time Captain Charisma replaces Eric Young..Eric Young is so under rated...I digress...This was it for me. When I watched the match i had completely forgot that AJ and Tomko were even the champions. I just enjoyed the match for what it was. A nice decent little match that pushed Joe..nice...but the tag titles were as non existent as Bob Holly's WWE Title Run.

    Grade = ....whatever.....

Lets not forget that AJ and Tomko will be in the semi main event at Lockdown as they team with Team 3D and James Storm to face off Against Christian, Rhyno, Matt Morgan and two guys who need to retire already...although I do love Kevin Nash...still hate Sting...I digress.

Good night everyone and go enjoy seeing Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin job to the wannabe La Parka and the wannabe Kane.

  • If Christian Stayed In The WWE....

    Posted on 4/3/08 8:22 PM

I have 3 predictions that most likely would have come true if Christian decided to remain with the WWE instead of going to TNA.

Prediction #1: Your World Heavyweight Champion, Christian !

There is no doubt in my mind that Christian would have become A world Champion if he stayed with The WWE. Now of course he did eventually go on to become a 2-time NWA World Champion, but lets face it this is not the 19 70's, The NWA World Title is no longer near as prestigious as the WWE or World Heavyweight Titles. The same can be said for the TNA world Heavyweight title.

As over as Christian was as a heel in 2005 there is no doubt in my mind that with his charisma and in-ring ability he would have probably had a program with Batista for the Title in 2005 or 2006..probably even a feud with Edge right now for the World heavyweight title. The main event scene in the WWE would definitely be different.

Prediction #2 : Monty brown or Jeff Hardy would have won the World Title In TNA

TNA could not afford to piggyback at that time on the backs of Team 3D, Rhino and Jeff Jarret. They would have had to create a lot of Big main Eventers. And although Hardy and Brown WERE main eventers they needed to go beyond that. One of them had to win the World title plain and simple.

    Prediction #3 : Christian : Hall Of Fame 2015

I just picked a random year. But it is inevitable. In My Opinion Christian Still has to be considered on of the greatest superstars ever. 9 time tag team champion, 3 time IC Champion former light heavyweight, European and hardcore champion. If he would have stayed he would have won the US Title and World Titles with no doubt in my mind.
