Time to Realign.
Posted on 8/14/08 2:30 PM
It seems to me that one of the problems in the WWE is that they are spread to thin in some areas and too thick in others. Right now we have TWO tag titles but only about 2 or 3 legitimate tag teams. We have TWO women's titles and only about 10 women wrestlers. We have a ton of cruiserweights but nothing for them to do except job. My idea would be for a realignment.
First off, UNIFY the two tag titles to ONE Tag Title and put that title on Smackdown. Then let the legitimate tag teams (Ryder/Hawkins, Rhodes/Dibiase, Miz/Morrison) and some newly made teams (for example: Burchill/Regal or Umaga/Khali or Kennedy/MVP etc.) go at it for the title.
Secondly UNIFY the 2 women's titles to ONE Diva's Title and put that title on RAW. Let the 6 or 7 legit women wrestlers (Mickie, Victoria, Natalya, Melina, Beth, Jilian, Katie Lea) go at it for the gold. Let the eye candy be valets or managers.
Lastly, RECREATE the Cruiserwight Title and put that title on ECW. With guys like Bourne, Chavo, London, Noble, Kendrick, Mysterio, Delaney, Yang etc. you could have a competitive CW division that would give those guys something to shoot for. I mean does anyone really see any of those guys I mentioned winning a World, US or IC title anytime soon? Put in a cruiserweight title and let them go at.
I think this would bring more order and competitiveness to those divisions. It would also make those titles MEAN SOMETHING.

Punk Joins Long List of Other "Questionable" Champions
Posted on 7/4/08 11:54 AM
There seems to be some discussion about CM Punk's Title win. Alot of the discussion is focused around whether or not the win makes him look good. As you all know he won the title from a beaten and battered Edge by cashing in the MITB contract. Many have said this makes Punk look weak but I argue that Punk is just one of many champions to have won a World Championship under questionable circumstances.
A look back in WWE/WWF history will show you that some of the greatest champions of all-time won titles questionably, this list includes both heels and faces.
Andre the Giant beat Hulk Hogan despite Hogan clearly getting his shoulder up.
Randy Savage won his first WWF Title w/interference from Hogan.
Hulk Hogan won a few Titles questionably. Tossed salt in Taker's eyes for one. Won the WWF Title at WMIX by pinning Yokozuna after Zuna had wrestled Bret Hart for 15 minutes. Hogan also won his last WWE title from Triple H w/help from Taker.
Zuna won the title from Hulk after he took a fireball in the face.
HBK + Bret Hart + Vince = Screwjob. 'Nuff said there.
HBK also beat Bret in "overtime" at WM12. Realistically, Hart defended the title in a draw but Monsoon gave HBK a few extra minutes despite Hart's complaints. So two of HBK's 4 World Title wins are questionable.
The Rock won 3 of his 7 WWF titles questionably. '98 Survivor Series "Screwjob" of Mankind, '99 Royal Rumble "Fake I Quit", Raw Ladder Match gets interference from Big Show.
Mankind needed Austin's help to pin Rock in January '99 on RAW. And used a forklift to pin Rock at Halftime Heat.
Austin was helped by McMahon at WM17 when he chair shotted Rock to death.
Of Triple H's 12 World Titles at least 3 that I can think of were "cheap wins." He was given the title once. He cheated to beat Orton back in 2004. UT and HBK gave him the Iron Man win against Rock. He probably won a few more questionably but I'm working from memory here.
Edge has won 5 World Titles and only 1 of them "clean." And even his clean win he used the WWE belt to hit Cena so he can pin RVD after Cena FU'ed him.
I'm sure I'm missing several others, but you get the point (feel free to mention any I forgot). When people think of Rock or Austin or HHH or whoever it is, no one ever mentions that they won such and such amount of titles unfairly. All that is ever mentioned is that they are a 7 or 6 or 12 or how ever many time World Champion.
Punk won his title fair and square, at least by WWE standards. It shouldn't make him look weak, it should make him look smart and it certainly makes him look like a champion. A few months from now no one will care how he won the title, we will simply call Punk, a World Champion. -
Legit Action on RAW
Posted on 6/24/08 7:13 PM
I have to admit I am a mark for legit stuff when it happens on a live wrestling show. RAW was great yesterday because the draft added a legit feel to the show. Then there were some legit incidents that made the show more intriguing.
First off, how PO'ed was JR? His reaction was priceless. At the time I thought he was acting, but it turns out that it was a legit reaction. He had no clue that he was getting moved and on his blog he said he thought about quitting. The JR surprise was the best moment of the draft.
Secondly, I don't like to see people get hurt but I have to admit that the botched spear between Edge and Batista during the Battle Royal was awesome. They both seemed to recover but Batista was a mess and clearly out of it for several minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a concussion. Edge seemed to be in better condition after the botch. I'm not sure who messed up there. But clearly only one of those guys was supposed to go for the spear.
On a more serious note, I thought Melina broke her ankle. Hopefully it's just a bad sprain. Melina is a good athlete but that's a long fall and those boots don't seem like they have much support. It seems to me that you just can't have "models" performing stunts like that. Candace Michele was hurt on a top rope move and now Melina.
I'm not sure if all the rips of Adamle were legit or planned but if they were legit they were well deserved.

The Greatest Active Wrestler Never to Win A World Title?
Posted on 5/21/08 10:29 AM
I was watching an old Ring of Honor video - Crowning a Champion - where Low Ki beats Christopher Daniels, Doug Williams and Spanky for the ROH Title. It started me thinking who is the greatest active wrestler never to win a World Heavyweight Title. For my money, I'd say Christopher Daniels is the greatest active wrestler never to win a World Heavyweight Title. He is a terrific in ring performer (one of the best ever in my opinion), he has always been able to hold his own on the mic, he's a 15 year veteran, yet he has never held a World Heavyweight Title. He came close in ROH several times but never got there and he has always been relegated to X Division in TNA. I think he deserves a World Title one of these days.
I'm curious as to who you think is the The Greatest Active Wrestler Never to Win A World Heavyweight Title (WWE, WHC, TNA, ROH, NWA, WCW, ECW (original and current if you'd like), AWA etc.)and why you think so.

Smackdown Dominance. RAW weakness.
Posted on 4/2/08 10:21 AM
At Wrestlemania 24, we saw Smackdown Dominance. Not only did Smackdown get to close the show for the first time since WM 19 but Kane won the ECW Title and Batista pinned Umaga in the battle for brand supremacy.
RAW has been the flagship brand for a while but the WWE chose to put over Smackdown in a big way at Mania 24. I think this reveals some major weaknesses in RAW.
First Randy Orton as champion on RAW is average at best. He provides minimal excitement in his matches or on the mic. IMHO, a feud with JBL just doesn't seem that interesting. Randy seems better suited to be the hunter rather than the hunted. I was surprised to see him defend at Mania. Orton's reign has lasted too long just like Cena's reign before him.
Secondly, Jeff Hardy's loss was huge for RAW. Hardy is exactly what RAW needs right now. A high energy, exciting face to challenge for and eventually carry the belt. Sadly this may never happen given Hardy's problems.
Lastly, RAW needs some new blood. Triple H, Orton, Cena and HBK are great workers but over exposure has made them predictable and stale. It's time to shuffle the deck, move talent around and push some new blood. It looks like Batista is coming to RAW. That's good. Kennedy and Carlito should be more prominently used on RAW. Kennedy in particular could be a great heel champ. I'd like to see Y2J defend the IC belt frequently against varied opponents. I'd also like to see CM Punk use that MITB Contract and challenge for the WWE Title. He could be the replacement for Hardy that is sorely needed.
This is my opinion, what do you guys think?
