Podcast Pilot episode
Posted on 2/15/08 5:45 PM
So as I said last week, I was putting together a pilot episode for the new wrestlingmarks.com podcast. It's quick and easy to digest and will basically cover all of the major stuff that happened on the site. Take a look.

No Way Out Predictions
Posted on 2/15/08 12:57 AM
Well, it's time for the classic bridge PPV, and generally the easiest to predict, No Way Out. Why so simple? Generally come February most of the major WrestleMania matches seem clear, so it's easy to pick who will win whatever set-up matches we have here. Last year they played it smart by headlining with the HBK/Cena vs. Undertaker/Batista match, but the return of John Cena threw the wrench of predictability back into things. So here we go:
WWE Title: John Cena vs. Randy Orton. I think that one thing is perfectly clear, and that's that John Cena and Triple H will both be involved in WrestleMania's main event. Whether or not Randy Orton is in there as well seems to still be a question mark. According to reports HHH/Cena is the likely match but there is still an outside chance of a triple threat. With that said, Cena is the smart choice, but I guess you never know.
World Title: Edge vs. Rey Mysterio. With Rey's latest injury, this match might not even happen. If it does, Edge is as much of a lock for the World title match at WM 24 as Cena and HHH are for the WWE title match. He definitely wins here.
RAW Elimination Chamber featuring Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels, Umaga, JBL, and Chris Jericho. Dang, that's a hell of a lineup, and this should be an awesome match, but there is no way that Triple H isn't winning. I'd say the only chance in hell of that not happening is if Jeff Hardy were to win the Chamber, and then HHH were to turn heel the next night on RAW and somehow earn the title shot. Since an eventual HHH heel turn is in the cards it's possible, but I'm thinking WWE will just keep it simple and have HHH vs. Cena as a face vs. face match, building off of their previous WrestleMania meeting.
Smackdown Elimination Chamber featuring the Undertaker, Batista, Big Daddy V, The Great Khali, MVP, and Finlay. Obviously Undertaker and Batista are the only possible choices to win, and most seem to think that Undertaker vs. Edge has been a WrestleMania lock for months. I still think there is a slim chance that we'll see Batista involved in a World title triple threat for WM 24, but that is SLIM. I'll pick the Deadman to win here.
ECW Title - Chavo Guerrero vs. CM Punk. If Rey sticks around I'm thinking he may challenge for the ECW title at WrestleMania. Plus, let's be honest here - CM Punk in the Money in the Bank match is going to be much better than him defending the ECW title in Orlando in a match that nobody cares about. I pick Chavo to retain.
Ric Flair vs. Mr. Kennedy - Flair's probably not retiring at No Way Out, so he'll beat Mr. Kennedy here. Perhaps MVP will try to prevent that from happening, setting up the long-awaited return of Matt Hardy?
I'm not sure when Santino and Carlito are going to get their tag title shots, but if it's at this PPV (with 2 Elimination Chamber matches and 2 World title matches already booked I'm thinking they may just cap the show at 6 matches), then they really should win the gold. Holly and Rhodes are doing nothing and Santino/Maria is a big angle headed into WrestleMania. -
Some new stuff on the site
Posted on 2/11/08 12:53 AM
Made a couple of minor updates today. Both are in the Top 10 section.
First, you'll notice the names of all wrestlers in the Top 10 are now blue - that's right folks, they are clickable hyperlinks! Where do they go? To the wrestler's profile page. For now, this page only includes a little bit of insight into the performance of a wrestler on the Top 10. In the future there will be more, so stay tuned.

The second thing is in the lower right hand part of the page on the most recent Top 10s. wrestlingmarks has been open for over a year now, which means a year's worth of top 10s. So now on each new page, you'll see the Top 10 from a year ago, with a link to go back and see all of the comments, points scored, etc. Only a minor thing, but it's kinda interesting to look at this week's top 10 and see that last year we had guys in there ranging from Vampiro to Finlay to Snitsky.

This week I'm going to put up the pilot episode for the first wrestlingmarks podcast. It's going to be a brief little slice of audio that is mostly used to highlight the different things going on on the site. Hopefully the pilot is good and it becomes a regular thing. :)
Also congrats to punkfan101 who won the top blogger giveaway for january... his DVD prize is on the way! If you can write well and want a crack at a free DVD, check out the top blogger giveaway rules. -
The polls are open!
Posted on 1/22/08 1:05 AM
So, as you might recall, the Top Bloggers Giveaway is going to be decided by member vote. So, in order to facilitate that, I had to set up a polling system. Something I've wanted to do for awhile, and finally a good reason to do it.
You see that the section in the sidebar is entitled "poll of the day." The Royal Rumble poll will probably stay up all week though, as the polls won't really be daily until I add a poll section so you can go back and see all of the polls added to the site.
Finally, in the future look for Polls to be a part of your profile much like your Top 10 history is. -
The year in wrestlingmarks
Posted on 12/31/07 2:36 PM
It's hard to believe it, but as 2007 comes to a close that means that the one-year birthday of wrestlingmarks is just a few weeks away. The site opened in mid/late January of last year. Since that time, hundreds of matches have been rated, hundreds of wrestlers have been voted for, and a lot of news and blogs have been posted. Here I'm going to take a look at wrestlingmarks 2007 - BY THE NUMBERS.
Of course, the big draw of wrestlingmarks has always been the Top 10. For the most part, you can find tons of Top 10 stats already in the Top 10 archives. However, there are some numbers that aren't spoken of there. Just who (besides me, of course) has voted the most?
DXSSI - 36 times
DaneBramage - 20 times
RoadblockPwnz - 16 times
bergdogg - 10 times
RyderSands - 9 times
willierko - 9 times
Hmm... well that's interesting, although unfortunately bergdogg and RyderSands both haven't voted in a long time. Hopefully they come back someday!
The match ratings section... I've promised an archive section for this area for a long time, and trust me, it's still coming. There are a lot of interesting things we could look at here. Keeping with the theme we looked at with the Top 10... who has rated the most matches? And what is the average match rating that they hand out?
willierko - 1387 ratings - average 2.4
RoadblockPwnz - 857 ratings - average 2.2
bpapa - 660 ratings - average 2.0
chan17man - 362 ratings - average 2.7
takemura - 336 ratings - average 2.0
Wow, some people use this site more than I do! Willie's a machine! Also cool to see that we all average around 2 stars, which means we are probably seeing our share of good and bad matches this year.
OK, so we see who's doing the rating, but which matches were the best? Well, five "classic" matches, that is, matches that were pre-2007, received an average five-star rating. And don't worry, the averages are only being counted for matches that have been rated 10 or more times. Here are those matches:
WrestleMania 22: Hardcore Match - Edge w/ Lita vs. Mick Foley
WrestleMania 21: Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels AND Money in the Bank Ladder Match - Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit vs. Christian vs. Kane vs. Shelton Benjamin
WrestleMania XX: World Heavyweight Championship - Triple H(c) vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels
WrestleMania X-Seven: Tag Team Championship TLC Match - The Dudley Boyz(c) vs. Edge and Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz
This year, we've only got one five-star match -
Manhattan Mayhem II: ROH World Title - Takeshi Morishima(c) vs. Bryan Danielson
Hell of a match, I was there for it myself! A number of matches also managed to pull in a 4 star ratings.
Manhattan Mayhem II: ROH Tag Titles 2/3 Falls - The Briscoes(c) vs. Kevin Steen and El Generico AND Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chris Hero AND Jack Evans vs. Roderick Strong vs. Austin Aries AND Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw vs. The Resilience
SummerSlam: WWE Championship - John Cena(c) vs. Randy Orton
No Mercy: Last Man Standing WWE Title - Triple H(c) vs. Randy Orton
RAW: Intercontinental Title Ladder Match - Jeff Hardy(c) vs. Carlito
Armageddon: Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy
ECW: The Miz and John Morrison vs. Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore
No Surrender: X-Division Title - Kurt Angle(c) vs. "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal AND #1 Contender Tag Team Gauntlet Match - Triple X vs. LAX vs. The Voodoo Kin Mafia vs. Eric Young and Shark Boy vs. The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Lane Hoyt and Jimmy Rave vs. AJ Styles and Tomko vs. Team 3D vs. Sonjay Dutt and Petey Williams vs. Raven and Havok
WrestleMania 23: WWE Championship - John Cena(c) vs. Shawn Michaels
Survivor Series: World Title Hell in a Cell - Batista(c) vs. The Undertaker AND WWE Title - Randy Orton(c) vs. Shawn Michaels
Cyber Sunday: World Title - Batista(c) vs. The Undertaker w/ Special Guest Referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin AND Street Fight - Umaga vs. Triple H
RAW: Randy Orton vs. Ric Flair
RAW: Mr. Kennedy and Finlay vs. Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy
A lot of surprises there, I think. No HBK vs. Cena from RAW, for one. Also no Umaga vs. Cena Last Man Standing but there's a good reason for that - that match isn't available for rating on wrestlingmarks! On the way to the Royal Rumble, it'll be up there along with all of the other Rumble matches from years past.
Although I'm only highlighting users in here that have contributed a lot to the site, I'd like to thank anybody that's rated a match, voted for a wrestler, made a comment, posted a blog, or even just visited the site. Here's to hoping that wrestlingmarks will be even bigger in 2008!
