Teddy Long, really??!
by cptcharisma1157 on 5/19/08 10:55 PM
Theodore Long is the worst GM in the history of pro wrestling. This is madness if he takes Regal's place. A face doesn't work as an authority figure, it just doesnt. The good guys are supposed to be held down by the gm, and they should have to overcome it, like The Undertaker right now. When there is a babyface in power nothing works right. The heels don't have any power, and wrestling becomes lame, predictable, and corny.
And a babyface, maybe, but Teddy Long, NO WAY! He's so annoying, and you can't even pretend that he has been fair in the past. He's made Carlito defend his US title with a broken shoulder, he fired Muhammad Hassan ubruptly for no reason, and he allowed Cena to beat the hell out of any announcer or woman he wanted cause he was "cool."
I'm pissed, I thought they were hinting at Ted DiBiase as the GM. That'd be fine. Roddy Piper'd be fine; Coach, Foley, Shane, Stephanie, or even Triple H, but Teddy Long, REALLY?!
I think over the summer I'm gonna swap over to watching more SmackDown than RAW, cause I can't stand Teddy Long.... Man, I wish Regal hadn't lost that match.

WHAT?! How can you determine if he's the worst? You can't call it holding heels down if there's a logical reason why he puts heels in disadvantageous situations - they always act like a bunch of punks, cheat in matches, etc., so Teddy was giving them some comeuppance. Teddy was enternaining as a GM, so I'd love to see him as it again.

I agree with JamesP. Teddy was fair as a GM, and entertaining as well. Regal is/was 10 times worse, and Coach was far off from being that bad either. And don't even get me started with Vickie Gurerrero...she's the main reason I haven't watched Smackdown in weeks.
So no, Teddy is, by far, NOT the worst.

You're talking about the man who made that classic ladder match back at Armageddon 2006. I don't know how you see Teddy Long as a horrible GM, but he was pretty good when he was on Smackdown. He also made great matches and was a fun GM. Besides we already have 2 other heel GM's so it won't kill you to have 1 face GM.

Teddy as GM... May prove interesting to see on RAW. When you look at the competition on RAW, it has been lacking MAJORLY! Teddy was/is responsible for the surge of quality action on SD, as well as the push in talent like Kendrick and London got. As for DiBiase... I LOVE the Million Dollar Man character, but if he comes in as a Jesus-freak (and I mean that in the "bad" way, my fellow Christian brethren), I might not be able to swallow RAW anymore...

to JamesP: during the time of Teddy Long being GM the two top most successful wrestlers were Eddie Guerrero and then John Cena. Both were babyfaces, who achieved success through cheating. The heels didn't cheat, the faces did. And despite that, the heels were still held down by Teddy Long.
to SnoHo: of course Regal abused his power, but he did it the right way. Wrestling works best when the biggest heel is the person in charge. "Good guys" should not abuse their powers to help other "good guys" cheat. It's hypocritical and illogical.
As for Vickie she punished a man for using an illegal choke hold. Then Teddy Long stuck her in a match??! (at least i think that's what happened, I missed Smackdown this week for a church function)..... anyway; what's more fair, taking the title from a man who cheats or force a woman to fight a man?
jeff made a decent argument, it's logical to have at least 1 face as GM, but i already get that on TNA... but really, if there must be a face gm, it should at least be someone with a tolerable personality. Austin was a good co-GM, Foley was a good commissioner, but Teddy Long was just annoying and unfair.
FLCchamp- I don't think RAW has been lacking, they just arent pushing the right people. Jericho has been so over with the fans for the past like 5 months, yet they never gave him a main event (they did, and he won, but somehow never got a rematch??)... Cena and JBL need to get out of the title picture for a while, let Kennedy, Hardy, and Carlito be up there. Anybody remember when Carlito came in second in an elimination chamber?? What happened to his push!??

Don't blame Teddy it was the board of directors who put Vickie in that match.
From JamesP on 5/20/08 4:09 PM
But were they being pests? Evily and unneccessarily attacking people? Pussying out of matches? No. Take MVP's feud with Kane, for example. He was already annoying T-Lo ever since he joined SD!, and running away from Kane. So Teddy puts him in an Inferno match.

Just for the record, Long fired Hassan by order of the WWE. Hassan was fired because of the controversial statements and actions he was saying and commiting (respectively) in the ring and in the locker room. The fans expressed HUGE disapproval for him, so WWE got rid of him via Teddy Long. Don't blame Long for the Board of Directors' actions.

Ok, this argument is mixing a lot of kayfabe stuff with non-kayfabe stuff.....
Teddy Long was not responsible for the London/Kendrick push, that was the WWE creative team. I know it was the WWE's decision to fire Muhammad Hassan; but from viewer's standpoint, it was Teddy Long who fired him. And that was for no reason. All he did was come on and saying "Muhammad Hassan Smackdown wants nothing to do with ya, Playa"...
And JamesP: yes, Teddy does a good job of keeping down the bad guys when they are cheating or bothering other superstars (like MVP), but if they want to sell him as a face he can't be hypocritical, he cant get mad at a bad guy when he cheats and turn the other cheek when a good guy does it... he shouldnt play favorites, and thats what he's always done.

As for RAW: Jericho is a nostalgia act for the fans. We want to hold on to those Monday Night War days, and honestly, Jericho returning was a WCW move, in my opinion (pushing established stars to help boost tv ratings). Yeah, he's IC champ, yeah, he can still perform better than half the ENTIRE roster, but, is he really living up to his former glory as the 1st Undisputed Heavyweight champ? I'd really rather see an influx of younger, talented superstars, as well as more divas capable of ACTUAL wrestling (because watching Mickie, Victoria, Natalie, Beth, and Melina constantly fight each other is OLD). Also, as for the kayfabe and non-kayfabe... 'Nuff said.
From cptcharisma1157 on 5/20/08 10:42 PM
i agree with all of that, except what you said about jericho... there are a lot of older talent that at this point should be used only to push younger guys (JBL, Triple H, Undertaker, Kane), but Jericho is one of the only ones that i think should be in the main event. he didnt get the career he deserved, he should get another title reign; guys like Undertaker and Triple H shouldn't.

To cptcharisma: When Teddy was GM of Smackdown he didn't hold down all the heels. If you recall JBL was the champ for 10 months during Teddy's time as GM. Along with members of his cabinet( Basham Brothers-Tag Team Champs, Orlando Jordan-US Champ) in 2004. When Randy had his fued with Taker, Randy and his dad faced Taker in a Handicap Casket match which they won in October 2005 and JBL recieved several title shots for the World Heavyweight title when Batista took it to smackdown. Mr. Kennedy became US champion when he was a heel on Smackdown in 2006. These are just some example of the heels not being held down. Even though Teddy put them in matches they still cheated. For example Survivor Series 2004- JBL vs. Booker T, if Orlando Jordan hadn't interfered Booker probably would've won.( Find that match and watch it to see what I mean). And I agree with JamesP, he gives the heels their comeuppance because they act like a bunch of punks like JBL, MVP, Edge. MVP did run from Kane so that's why he put him in an inferno match. And not to mention he lost most of his US title defense matches via count out because he walked away from the ring when he started to lose. And Edge is the biggest punk right now because he hides behind a woman in a wheelchair. So Teddy is a great GM, better than Vickie.

From fyrooz4125 on 5/23/08 10:55 PM
Teddy Long is a face GM. And I would love to see him as GM of Raw. We never had a face GM on Raw for a pretty long time and I would like to see his effect on the brand and all of the heel guys.
