Lockdown/Raw Review : Which was better ????
by willierko on 4/15/08 1:36 AM
I should not be asking that question, but I am, because you see Lockdown was an o.k. ppv, 7/10 at the highest, some nice action, bad finishes, bad storytelling and even worse story progression.
But Raw was a gem, unlike last week's raw, this Raw delivered in match quality, surprises, story telling, promos, and overall enjoyment. After watching Raw I felt that I could have been happier ordering THAT instead of Lockdown...lets just begin the review shall we....
Lockdown
X Title Escape Match featuring Jay Lethal(c), Sonjay Dutt, Curry Man, Shark Boy, Johnny Devine, and Consequences Creed ***
Good opening, good action and pretty sweet innovation. We saw Sonjay Dutt get surprisingly eliminated early with a roll up (the first of many at this pay per view). Soon after we saw Consequences Creed eliminate shark boy with A hammerlock ddt, which was nice. We saw Johnny Devine ( Iwas impressed by Devine in this match) attempt a Shooting star press and Don West called it " something crazy ". It came down to Machismo (who really did not do that much) against Devine, who really proved to me that he deserves to be the top heel in the X-Division. Machismo won when he dove to the outside to touch the floor before Devine could.
Queen of the Cage featuring Christy Hemme, Salinas, Jackie Moore, Traci Brooks, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Roxxi Laveaux and Rhaka Khan *3/4
This was retarded crap. I don't need to continue, the only thing good about this match was the progression of the Angelina Love/Velvet Sky vs Roxxi Lavauex feud. And the Voodoo drop by Roxxi was nice.
Kip James Vs BG James *
Initially i thought this could have been a decent match no matter how washed up these guys are. I was wrong, granted they only got 6 minutes, and it was a crappy 6 minutes. Kip dominated until the end when BG scored a pinfall via a roll up. Looks like there going to continue their feud since Kip turned on BG AGAIN !!! CRAP CRAP CRAP !!!
Cuffed in the Cage - Rock n Rave Infection vs. LAX vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Scott Steiner and Petey Williams vs. Rellik and Black Reign vs. Kaz and Eric Young **1/2
The concept of this match was just stupid albeit I have seen worse (see queen of the cage). But the action was good we got 2 really nifty spots, one where Lance Hoyt Choke Slammed Kaz from the turnbuckle to the mat which was sweet. And another where Kaz hit the flux capacitor on Jimmy Rave, which Rave sold beautifully. SUPER ERIC came out to the end of the match to squash Black Reign, Rellik (YAY !) and The Rock n Rave Infection (boo !!). Eric was the last man standing and He and Kaz won I guess, I dont know who cares lets move on.
Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed vs. Gail Kim and ODB **3/4
Nice little match here, which showed the true presence of the Women's division in TNA shine. It was decent but it could have been better considering Raisha Saeed can wrestle pretty well. Gail and ODB won...nice.
Booker T and Sharmell vs. Robert Roode and Ms. Payton Banks 1/4*
Yes, you read my rating right, ONE QUARTER OF A STAR ! I dont think I have ever seen a match as poorly booked like this. (Only Dutch Mantell can top himself)..I'm not even going to waste my fingers on this match.
Lethal Lockdown - Christian Cage, Sting, Rhino, Kevin Nash, and Matt Morgan vs. Tomko, AJ Styles, Team 3-D and James Storm **3/4
This match in my opinion was the worst lethal lockdown, it was ok though. There were way too many big guys in here to be really really good. This whole match just led to the spot with AJ and Christian. I really thought the spot was just good, not great, maybe dangerous as hell but it was not a HOLY FUCKING SHIT MOMENT..it was more of a OH DAMN MOMENT. Rhino picking up the victory I liked very much.
Six Sides of Steel TNA Title - Kurt Angle(c) vs. Samoa Joe ****
After watching it a second time I am dropping the rating a bit. I tend to agree though that this was a very good match, and an early match of the year candidate it was not as good as Taker/Edge OR Michaels/Flair and definitely not as good as Aries/Shiozaki. I am an MMA fan, and to be honest the firast half of the match with all the MMA stuff didn't work as well I thought it should have, it was good but again not great. When they brought in the Pro Wrestling aspect into it, thats where the match picked up. The ending came out of nowhere but it was still good. And it is a site of glory seeing Joe with THE TNA World Title.
RAW
HBK/Jericho Promo ***
Yes I am rating the promo, the words really didn't do much but the tension between the two, and Jericho turning into a bit of a heel was beautiful and SURPRISING ! One of TWO great surprises in the night.
Londrick vs Cantino #1 Contendership **1/2
This was a fun little tag match, and JR and Lawler were selling the tag belts like I ahve never seen them sold in the WWE. Yes, the tag division ,ight just have some life in it after all. I really dont like Cantino winning but their promo after the match was nice (Santino is a comic genius).
Women's Title - Beth Phoenix (c) Vs. Mickie James ***
This was there best match together, probably Beth Phoenix's best match since coming to the WWE. And remeber I said that there was another great surprise, well this was it. Mickie James picks up the victory and her 3rd Women's Championship. Oh Sweet Glory !
Regal backstage promo was just short and sweet. *1/2
JTG Vs. Trevor Murdoch *1/4
I agve it an extra quarter because although this match was only 2 minutes long, the tension between Cade and Murdoch is great.
William Regal vs. Randy orton Non Title ***1/2
My god was this technically sound or what ?? This was a very good match, it told such a good story. Although it lasted only 10 minutes it was still good, not one minute went to waste as Regal pulled out the best in Orton. The finish was like every Randy Orton finish a sweet RKO out of nowhere.
Y2J Vs. Umanga ! IC Title ***
This match was great. Umaga really impressed me in this match. It went as long as I thought it could to be just right. And Jericho pulling out his heel tactic to win was great.
Paul Birchull Vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan *
Eh, whatever.
HHH Vs. JBL Pre Promo **
.....yeah.....
JBL Vs. HHH **1/2
This match should ahve been better than it was, but my god does JBL need to lose some weight. This is though wjhatyou would expect from these 2 on free tv. They only work hard on Pay Per Views don't you know. I swear if JBL wins at backlash (which he wont....right ?) I will boycott raw just like I am boycotting McDonald's for letting me not take a piss in their bathroom.
Ok so maybe Lockdown WAS better, but god not by much, and If I ahd to choose to either watch Last Night's Raw for free or to pay 30 dollars for Lockdown then you bet your ass I am going with the free RAW.

RAW was pretty good last night and it made up for last weeks RAW. I just wish that London & Kendrick had won the #1 contender's match. Chris Jericho is now a heel again which was shown last night. The JBL/Triple H match should have better I excepted a brawl. The Regal/Orton match was surprisely good and so was the Umaga/Jericho match.
And you made a mistake Mickie James is a 4 time Women's champion her last title reign lasted only a couple of hours. She lost the title to Melina. If you don't belive me then look at the women's title history and you will see that.

Raw last night had a couple high spots, I'll give you that. But overall I wasn't impressed with the show as a whole. Lets start at the top:
#1 Contenders Tag Title Match Carlito/Santino vs Londrick
Carlito had to carry the match for his team because Santino still looks like a newbie in the ring. Would have rather seen Londrick pick up the win. The after match promo was horrible, another spot Carlito had to carry Marella.
Womens Title Match: Beth Phoenix(c)vs Mickie James
Why does everyone dislike Beth? She is THE BEST wrestler in the WWE women's division. Mickie James won the belt, woopty doo...who is she going to feud with now? Ashley and Maria? Melina? If the WWE was smart they would move Nattie and Victoria to Raw, repackage Beth a face and you could at least have four good wrestlers to carry the division. The promo after the match with the bimbo brigade and Todd the tool Grisham was worthless. Did Mickied just win the superbowl? Sorry she doesn't deserve more fanfare than Beth.
Considering Mickie's four title reigns don't equal the length of Beth's ONE reign.
JTG vs Trevor Murdoch
Good heat between partners Cade/Murdoch, Cryme Tyme needs a bigger push along with the rest of the tag division. Match was weak at best, there is a reason these guys are in tag teams.
Randy Orton vs William Regal
Regal can brawl or put together a great technical match on any given night, last night was one of those nights. He and Orton had a great technical exchange at the beginning of the match that ended with a rolling bodyscissors applied by Regal. Then the Regal kind of botched the locking cradle head and leg suplex, followed by a succession of exploder suplexs and Orton hit the RKO out of no where for the win. Great match!
Intercontinental Title Match: Y2J(c)vs Umaga
Jericho has said out of Kayfabe that he loves working with Umaga and after the match last night it is easy to see why. They put on a great match(match of the night)and helped get Jericho back on the map as he has kind of stalled out a little in my opinion. I want to see him and HBK feud again, they are two greats and also work well together in the ring.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Paul Burchill
Not gonna waste my time!
Main Event: Triple H vs JBL
Brawling back and forth, Orton interferes, JBL lays out Orton after assaulting Triple H, but Cena was conspicuous by his absence.
Overall I gave the show a 2 out of 5 stars, Match of the Night went to Y2J vs Umaga, Promo of the Night went to HBK/Y2J at the top of the show.

I think everyone knows that Beth is a good wrestler its just that she is a heel and that's probably the reason everyone doesn't like her.
From jeff on 4/15/08 10:30 AM
And why do you keep calling the divas whores or bimbos? Do you have something against the divas? Mickie James is a good wrestler and deserved to win the women's championship. Just because she showed emotion makes her a bimbo. I do agree with you that Victoria should go to RAW. As for Neidhart I don't know about her I haven't seen her wrestle yet. I saw Katie Lea wrestle once and she's pretty good so maybe Mickie can fued with her.
From willierko on 4/15/08 5:02 PM
I still think Mickie is a better wrestler then Beth
From willierko on 4/15/08 7:00 PM
yeah i know jeff slight memory lapse lol
From Petedaddydolla on 4/15/08 7:08 PM
I don't have anything against the women who WRESTLE. I don't particularly care for the DIVAS who are models masquerading as wrestlers. I don't dislike Mickie James either, actually I'm quite fond of her and believe her to be a VERY TALENTED young lady. I just love Beth because not only is she talented and physically gifted, but she is believable in character. She looks the part of a dominant "glamazon" as they call her. I just thought the promo after the match was forced and ridiculous because they didn't even have a shoot like that at Mania when Taker beat Edge for the World Heavyweight Title. The "Bimbo Brigade" as I call them is comprised of Candice, Ashely and Maria. Mickie is NOT included in that, as she is a wrestler.
This is how the Divas division SHOULD look:
1)Beth Phoenix
2)Mickie James
3)Melina
4)Katie Lea
5)Michelle McCool
6)Victoria
7)Nattie Neidhart
Then I would TRY to rehire Nora Greenwald; if she would even come back. I recently watched a shoot interview with her. She is very articulate and knowledgeable about the business and she is sorely needed back in WWE right now. If you added her to the mix and brought the WRESTLERS to Raw and put the other "divas" on Smackdown and ECW it would strengthen the division more so and thusly become more competitive with the TNA Knockouts Division.
