The Impact's Royal Rumble Picks
Posted on 1/20/08 2:27 PM
JBL versus Chris Jericho
I expect this to be leading to a WrestleMania match of sorts, and I think the first win in this rivalry will go to the returning JBL cheaply.
Predicted Winner: JBL
Career Threatening Match
Ric Flair versus MVP
Flair's career threatening match angle is going to at LEAST go to WrestleMania, so expect MVP to lose.
Predicted Winner: Ric Flair
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Champion Edge versus Rey Mysterio
It's the Royal Rumble, and it's known for it's "filler" championship matches. That's what this is -- a filler.
Predicted Winner: Edge retains
WWE Championship
Champion Randy Orton versus Jeff Hardy
Now, this match has me a little uncertain about the usual Rumble filler theory. Because I've not seen a push like the one Hardy's getting ever. NORMALLY, in the WWE, during a fued like this, while one man gains massive momentum heading towards their match, the other person (in this case Orton) tends to get at LEAST one night where he stands with his hand raised. Because of how long this has gone on now, I would have expected that moment last week. Shockingly however, Hardy AGAIN gained the upper hand and took Orton out. So now I'm confused. Hardy's getting a push unlike anything I've seen in years. Not simply because he wins all the time, but because he's always gaining the upper hand on Orton, and anyone else thrown in his way! So I'm not so certain this match is a filler match, and it may lead to an interim champion. While the No Way Out rumors of the Elimination Chamber #1 Contender match state that both Orton and Hardy will be in the match, it would lead one to believe something will happen on a RAW that would make neither of them champion,... but we all know the card is subject to change. But Jeff Hardy might actually take the gold off Orton. I can't imagine how they can push anyone else more to take the belt from Orton if Hardy fails. So, unless it's a cheap disqualification on Orton's part...
Predicted Winner: Jeff Hardy
Royal Rumble Match
I've heard NOTHING this year about rumored people to win, but the way things are going, it's still early to even pick really. So I'll choose the three I think are most likely to win it, and of course, things could change to make it impossible for my picks to win, but here it is:
Predicted Winner: Triple H; Undertaker; Batista -
Women's Wrestling
Posted on 12/15/07 11:38 AM
For all the people I constantly hear say "who cares, women's wrestling sucks" let me ask you something. When it comes to John Cena, or Bobby Lashley, or the Undertaker, or even Batista - "who cares? They suck." They're nothing spectacular. However, with most WWE stuff aside, have any of you watched some of these women wrestlers BEFORE they went WWE? And I'm not talking about the ones that are braindead about the profession, such as Kelly Kelly or Maria or Candice Michelle, who knew NOTHING about it going in. I'm talking about the ones that earned their way to the WWE, such as Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, and Victoria. Those women, along with more to come (Nattie Neidhart the next to hit the WWE?...), are just as talented in the ring, and sometimes more talented, than the men. Sure, they wouldn't be able to hold up in a match against a guy, that's a given. But when you watch some of the matches in the last few years by the women, they really are getting over, and they've improved greatly. In fact, the Trish Stratus versus Mickie James Women's Championship match at WrestleMania 22 had among the highest pops I heard thru that night. The crowd got into the match hardcore, and it's unusual for anyone to get into the women's matches period. That's because now there are more and more women WRESTLERS. I hate the term "diva" because while it suits half the women's roster, it's incorrect for the rest. There are women in that business that are there to wrestle, and that's it. Some fall into the stupid ass gimmick matches (all but Beth Phoenix so far I've noticed). But Mickie, while she worked independants as Alexis Laree, worked some of the best matches I'd seen in a long time. I saw some of Phoenix's matches with OVW and SHIMMER Women's Athlete's, and she's phenomenal. Some of the women out there now are great on the indy scene, such as Mercedes Martinez and the very impressive (and young) Portia Perez. These women are busting their damn asses off to be the best in the ring, not the best eye candy, and if you don't like them, fine, but at least show them some respect. I HATE the fact that people like Lashley, Cena, Mysterio, Batista, etc get all this fame and glory, when there are a lot more talented individuals, but you know what, I normally keep that to myself. Not because I don't want to start an argument, but because no matter how much I hate their work, I still show respect to them because obviously they have SOMETHING to make it that far. I just see something MORE in others that are pushed aside. So do me a favor, show the women of the wrestling world some respect.

"The Impact" Makes His Armageddon Picks

WWE United States Championship
Champion MVP versus Rey Mysterio
Personally, I don't like Mysterio, and I like MVP and think he's going to become big a few years down. As for the title match, you know as well as I do, it should have been MVP versus Matt Hardy, but because of Hardy's inconveniencing appendix bursting action, he's out. So I think they'll let MVP hold onto it until Hardy comes back to finish out their feud the right way.
Predicted Winner: Champion MVP
Finlay versus the Great Khali
I quite honestly don't see the point of this. I personally believe they MIGHT be leading to a Finlay versus McMahon WrestleMania match, because McMahon seems to like wrestling old wrestlers at the yearly extravaganza. I see screw job in here somewhere.
Predicted Winner: The Great Khali
WWE Women's Championship
Champion Beth Phoenix versus Mickie James
Man,.. my two favorite female wrestlers in professional wrestling today. I mean, I loved these two women in the ring since BEFORE either of them even landed in the WWE. I've seen Phoenix wrestle OVW and SHIMMER matches, and first saw Mickie wrestle as Alexis Laree in WEW and remember her from her run in TNA Wrestling. And hands down, they're the best competitors in the WWE today for the women. Even if they don't get to display their real talents enough. It's a tough one for me to call... I hope they lead this to a feud... but I'm sure Candice's return will demolish that thought down the line.
Predicted Winner: Champion Beth Phoenix
Mr. Kennedy versus Shawn Michaels
I know everyone always hangs on the legend's nuts, such as Flair and Michaels and Undertaker, but be realistic. HBK will be used as a stepping stone to put Kennedy where he would have been if he hadn't gotten injured so many times - main event status.
Predicted Winner: Mr. Kennedy..... KENNEDY.
Big Daddy V & Mark Henry versus Kane & CM Punk
What's the point of this? Someone please tell me?
Predicted Winner: CM Punk and Kane
#1 Contenders Match - WWE Championship
Triple H versus Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy
I know I'm biased with these two, because I've rarely been a Triple H fan, and I've been a fan of Jeff Hardy since I first started watching wrestling, starting with WrestleMania XV when he and Matt wrestled the Brood. But honestly, Jeff is talent, and will make it to main event status, and was there once before (remember the ladder match with Taker anyone?) Jeff's time is coming, and I believe Hunter's been purposely putting people over for the future of main eventers, hence his long angle with Umaga for no real tangible reason and a lightened stress on Trips going for a title. Somehow, Triple H puts Hardy over and Hardy gets his next big title match. Also, if you pay attention, they've been grooming Jeff for this. His placement on the shows, when he comes out for matches, more backstage promos, higher impact matches, and his dark matches. He actually had a WWE Championship match with Orton in an Australia house show, which he almost won, after winning a battle royal in which he eliminated Triple H himself. Expect the beginning of another passing of the torch.
Predicted Winner: Jeff Hardy
WWE World Championship
Champion Batista versus Edge versus Undertaker
Last I heard, they were preparing for Edge versus Undertaker at WrestleMania 24, and had been since WrestleMania 23. With Undertaker clearly undefeated at WM, and Edge technically undefeated at WrestleMania as well (it's tough to count last year's Money in the Bank as a loss, but he didn't win either). I think that's still the plan, and I think once again Taker will chase the gold.
Predicted Winner: Edge
WWE Championship
Chris Jericho versus Champion Randy Orton
Before Jericho returned, I would have thought Orton to hold the gold thru WrestleMania. With a #1 Contenders match on this card putting someone completely new into the picture, the feud with Jericho and Orton will be cut rather short, perhaps, and it's hard to say who will make it out as champion, considering you won't know where they're going with this. We could see the return of Orton versus Triple H for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. On the other hand, we might see Jericho versus Jeff Hardy for the title instead. Or even Jericho versus Triple H or Hardy versus Orton. It's tough... But with Jericho's improved in-ring abilities, better shape, better gimmick, reignited passion... they may give it to him. Sides, no one wanted Cena as champion, Orton's a heel and gets heat too... they haven't had a cheered face win the gold in a while.
Predicted Winner: Chris Jericho
Therefore, my prediction on the Royal Rumble 2008 WWE Championship match, as of now, would be to see Jericho versus Jeff Hardy... and that would be a highly entertaining match. -

The WWE believes that they can raise their ratings by constantly throwing in ridiculous gimmick matches of some sort. Yes, it is good to see a Hell in a Cell match once in awhile, but at the same time, overkill kills it. Also, they push far too many stars that have limited wrestling talent, while the most talented people I've seen in a wrestling ring in years are held back. John Cena is over with the women and the kids, not because of his wrestling ability, but simply because they think he's "awesome" or "hot" and he has some silly "can't see me" taunts. Bobby Lashley has no real tangible gimmick period, and is basicaly just a black Brock Lesnar (doesn't his entrance look a wee bit familiar?). On top of that, you have people like Shawn Michaels, an outdated performer, taking up all the main event time that younger guys could be using. Or someone like Stone Cold Steve Austin running up twenty minutes of time on one episode of RAW just to disappear again. You know, I loved Austin back in the day too, but that doesn't mean he should make a random appearance and take away tv time from the building of tomorrow's stars. See, tomorrow's stars aren't getting their shots today because today they're still focusing on yesterday's stars. That can't happen. You can't make forward progress by going backwards. Yes, I loved D-Generation X and the Rock and Austin as much as the next guy... but those days are over. Give the spotlight to people like Orton, and Edge, and Jeff Hardy and MVP. They deserve it and they're the ones that the company will be carried by once Austin and Michaels and Undertaker are so bashed up they can't get out of bed in the morning. Build them now, while they can still be built. Sooner or later, all this focus on yesterday will hinder today and tomorrow will have absolutely nobody.
