If Christian Stayed In The WWE....
by willierko on 4/3/08 8:22 PM
I have 3 predictions that most likely would have come true if Christian decided to remain with the WWE instead of going to TNA.
Prediction #1: Your World Heavyweight Champion, Christian !
There is no doubt in my mind that Christian would have become A world Champion if he stayed with The WWE. Now of course he did eventually go on to become a 2-time NWA World Champion, but lets face it this is not the 19 70's, The NWA World Title is no longer near as prestigious as the WWE or World Heavyweight Titles. The same can be said for the TNA world Heavyweight title.
As over as Christian was as a heel in 2005 there is no doubt in my mind that with his charisma and in-ring ability he would have probably had a program with Batista for the Title in 2005 or 2006..probably even a feud with Edge right now for the World heavyweight title. The main event scene in the WWE would definitely be different.
Prediction #2 : Monty brown or Jeff Hardy would have won the World Title In TNA
TNA could not afford to piggyback at that time on the backs of Team 3D, Rhino and Jeff Jarret. They would have had to create a lot of Big main Eventers. And although Hardy and Brown WERE main eventers they needed to go beyond that. One of them had to win the World title plain and simple.
Prediction #3 : Christian : Hall Of Fame 2015
I just picked a random year. But it is inevitable. In My Opinion Christian Still has to be considered on of the greatest superstars ever. 9 time tag team champion, 3 time IC Champion former light heavyweight, European and hardcore champion. If he would have stayed he would have won the US Title and World Titles with no doubt in my mind.

Well, he has had n awesome career in TNA so far. I'm sure that if Christian went back to WWE, they'd use him properly.

Come on James, you think the bookers in WWE would use him correctly? Their matches have gotten better but they still lack that "pop" to be completely huge again. I am a Christian fan and have always thought though he was really talented he never got the credit he really deserved in WWE. That is why I was so happy when he left for TNA! Because in TNA you don't have to be 300 pounds to hold a World Title.

I think #1 is definitely true at least. Sure, Christian didn't receive a very big push in his last year in the WWE, and he even got shafted out of a feud with John Cena, but WWE liked him and was considering pushing him as a title contender before (against Benoit before Christian got injured). Eventually WWE would have come around and given him a series of title shots, if not a championship.
In the end it's hard to say he made the wrong call though, I believe he recently resigned so he thinks he made the right one. In TNA he has a much easier schedule.

I agree with #1. Eventually they would have given him a title reign. Edge got a few, why not Christian.
Brown and Hardy have all sorts of problems that would make them hard to trust. So I'm not sure world titles were in their future.
By 2015, the WWE will probably own the rights to TNA and be able to put Christian in the Hall of Fame anyway.

minister I think you're right, but 2015 is way too early, first of all I don't even think Christian will be retired in 7 years, he'll only be about 40.... And I think that the TNA will have at least 10 years as a legitimate league before going under.

A. I don't think WWE will be able to continue to buy up every upstart promotion forever. If they step on too many toes they're really going to start to be in trouble. Plus, I keep saying but no one listens, WWE's base comes and goes. A good majority of WWE's base, once they start to get older, either abandon wrestling completely or go to MMA. WWE lives off overhyping to get easily swayed crowds to watch. The bottom fell out in the 90's and it could easily fall out again. When that happens WWE has to rely on its hardcore fans, many of whom they've thoroghly pissed off in recent years and some of whom they've outright rejected. This gets back to the stepping on the toes part. A LOT of people who watch TNA just don't want to watch WWE anymore. If WWE buys them out they're not going to get even half as much publicity as they did by reviving ECW. They're better off just letting TNA do thier own thing and signing the wrestlers that get tossed to the side.
B. Christian left because he wasn't getting the pushes he was promised. He had popularity, he had a good build, he had the skills, and he had paid his dues, but WWE just didn't seem to want to do anything with him. I think the last straw was Edge getting pushed. He could probably stand seeing people like Eddie and Chris going before him, but when Edge got called up and he still got the same old lines I'm sure he realized that WWE wasn't making him a priority. If everyone knew that he had main event skills then, why would wrestling in TNA suddenly make him eligible for a Title? Did former NWA Heavyweight Champion Monty Brown get a main event push? No. Did former X-Division Champ Kaz get a main event push? No. Is former NWA Heavyweight Champ Ron Killings going to get a main event push? No. They won't even give Jericho a main event push, what makes you think Christian is the exception?
C. Prestige within which circles? There's one school of thought that says that because WWE is trying to distance itself from wrestling as it has become known and gear itself more towards the entertainment aspect its World Titles have actually lost a lot of prestige, wheras the NWA is trying to maintain the athletic integrity of the sport. Sure they have more exposure, but at the cost of some credibility.
D. I don't think TNA was piggybacking. At a time when playing up a big heel champion was fashionable, Jarrett was simply doing what he had always been doing on a much larger stage. Besides, Jarrett was an emodiment of the spirit of TNA. It was a bunch of people who had their stage to perform ripped out from under them and were getting a second chance with TNA. Team 3D didn't really get big until the final stages of Planet Jarrett. And piggybacking, really? Was WWE piggybacking when they signed Andre and Hogan, or Macho Man, DiBiase, Steamboat, Mr. Perfect, or Lex Luger, or when they started ripping off ideas from ECW and WCW, or when they revived the ECW brand? If every wrestler that gets released from WWE is going to be accused of piggybacking whenever they sign with a different promotion, then why even bother? Why not call it quits right then? Oh yeah, they do this for a living. Fact is, TNA was tired of Monty Brown before Christian was there. I'd say that if anything killed his momentum it was Sting's return and Abyss' re-push. And Jeff probably would've gotten a Title shot if not for his personal issues. He was the one who no-showed a bunch of appearances leading to his release.
E. I agree that Christian is a great worker and that he'll go down as one of the all-time greats, but I don't know that WWE would've acknowledged him. Look at all the talent WWE has pretty much ignored. Ricky Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race, Dean Malenko, Shane Douglas, Terry Funk, Jeff Jarrett, and more. All these people were very accomlished wrestlers outside of WWE, but never got very far in WWE itself. Yeah, they got some compensation in the form of the hall, but by that time most people already recognized them as legends. Furthermore, look at all the people who got pushed in WWE by chance. Do you think Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels would've gotten pushed if Hogan would've stuck around? Do you think Eddie would've gotten pushed if Brock stuck around? Look at how many times Jericho was given an IC Title run instead of a World Title run, and the same with Beniot. Look at how many times RVD was passed over. And then when the shit hits the fan WWE comes crawling back to Jericho and RVD begging them to make a return. They don't always give people what they deserve even if it's obvious they deserve it. I could've told you ten years before he won his first World Title that Eddie Guerrero was a legend in the making. Dean spent 22 years cementing his reputation as one of the best all time workers, and Ricky Steamboat spent 28 and neither ever got a main event push in WWE. Being a great worker does not garuntee you that you'll get the recognition you deserve, especially when it comes to WWE.

And I realize that Monty Brown never won the NWA World Title, that's a mistake on my part.
