How to fix the WWE
by jeff on 6/11/08 2:43 PM
I can't believe i'm even writing this, but the problems in the WWE have become big and it needs to be addressed. Obviously over the past couple of years alot of things have changed about the WWE. This year the WWE has been on a low ever since John Cena returned at the Royal Rumble. I not saying that the problems with the WWE is John Cena's fault because their not, but the problems that I have with the WWE needs to be FIXED. So here are my problems with the WWE:
1) Too Many Big Wrestlers- A problem that has been growning over the last couple of years. It seems that Vince doesn't hire wrestlers based on wrestling alone anymore. Now I think he hires on size. If you're a big guy in the WWE you're most likely going to receive a push no matter if you can wrestle or not. Mark Henry, The Great Khali, Big Daddy V, Batista, Koslov, Umaga, Snitsky, The Big Show, Kane, The Undertaker, and Festus. Those are the big guys of the WWE which is too much. The only people that can actually wrestle from that list is Kane, Big Show, The Undertaker, Batista, Festus and Umaga. Wrsetlers like Khali and Mark Henry can't put on a great match no matter how hard they try because they suck. Everyone knows that Khali can't wrestle yet he became World Heavyweight Champion. I think even Vince knows that he can't wrestle yet his obsession with big guys took over. I'm sick and tired of guys like these in the WWE and they need to go. It's sad to see wrestlers like Jamie Noble or Jimmy Wang Yang being put in squash matches because the WWE has found them useless. One thing about TNA is that their roster doesn't contain more than two or three big wrestlers because they actually use people who can wrestle.
2) Fresh Storylines and Fresh Rivalries are needed- Another problem with the WWE is their title picture. Only a couple people in Vince's mind qualify as main event worthy. Batista, Edge, The Undertaker, Triple H, Randy Orton and John Cena are the guys Vince likes to push. I'm really getting sick and tired of these people in the main event. I think last time none of these people weren't in a WWE title match or World title match was about 2 years ago. That's ridiculious. This past year the WWE title picture has not had a match that does not involve either John Cena, Randy Orton and Triple H. Last year we had John Cena as the WWE champion for nearly the whole year. I want new challengers in the WWE title and World title picture because i'm sick and tired of seeing the same people being in the main event.
3) Stop Giving Main Eventers Mid-Card Titles- This problem really is for the Intercontinental title. The U.S title has the right guys in the mid-card title picture right now. Guys like Jeff Hardy and Chris Jericho do not need the Intercontinental title. Jericho is a former 8 time Intercontinental champion. The guy doesn't need that title anymore he should be in the main event spot fighting for the WWE title. Guys like Charlie Haas or Paul Burchill should be fighting for that title. They may see Jericho's eight intercontinental title reigns as a good thing, but the way I see it there basically saying that Jericho isn't good enough anymore to be in the main event so we're giving him the IC title instead.
4) Surprise us. Do something unexpected- Do something unexpected like give Shelton Benjamin a World title shot and have him win it. Even if its just for a week that would be a refreshing change instead doing predictable things like John Cena overcoming the odds and holding the WWE title for over a year making him look like superman. These days the WWE is too predictable with or without the internet. Change can be good. Doing something like giving Benjamin a World title or giving Jamie Noble a push for the U.S title would make people watch more.
5) Pay Attention to your Tag Team Division- The WWE's tag team division seriously sucks right now. Not because there aren't any good tag teams mainly because the WWE has stopped caring about their tag team division. Merge both Tag Titles. I see no need for having two tag team titles. This can make more tag team rivalries like Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. John Morrison & The Miz. If not merging the titles then care more about the tag team division. It's been months since we have seen the World Tag Team titles defended on a pay-per-view and years since both tag titles have been defended at Wrestlemania.
6) Stop Adjusting to Just One Style- Guys like CM Punk and Rob Van Dam had to change their styles because the WWE didn't like their original style. Having different styles can make wrestling more interesting and more fun to watch. Having every wrestler with a same style can make wrestling boring. I liked RVD's and CM Punk's original style so why change it?
7) Give Different Wrestlers A Chance- Try to push everyone on your roster. Pushing different guys or girls will make the title picture more interesting and not too predictable. Everyone should get some kind of push. Even though the cruiserweight title is gone push your cruiserweights for a U.S or Intercontinental title shot. They deserve it.
8) Listen To Your Fans- Listening to your fans can help improve the WWE. The fans are the reason why the WWE is so popular so why not listen to them. Satisfying the fans should be your #1 priority. Giving away money isn't going to help people watch wrestling. People watch wrestling to see people wrestle. If people wanted money giveaways then they can go on a game show or play the lottery. Wrestling should always come first.
Well as you can see I have alot of problems with the WWE right now. If at least some problems aren't addressed soon the WWE might lose a loyal fan. TNA right now is the best wrestling company on T.V to watch right now so I hope that the WWE improves over the next couple of months.

Okay... I guess I get to play Buzz Killington this time, huh? Well, I do agree, PARTIALLY, with you Jeff. Some of those issues are problems with WWE and their ratings. But:
1) Vince has ALWAYS valued size over skill. History speaks for itself: Diesel 7ft 300+ lbs. (2-time Champ), Undertaker 6'11 300+ lbs. (5-time champ), Andre the Giant 7'1 400+ lbs (1-time champ), Big Show 7ft 400+ lbs. (2-time champ), etc. What I'm saying is that Vince identifies with larger than life characters because that's what HE believes that HE is. If you ever notice how certain characters get pushes, Vince sees himself as that person (Paul Heyman said it best on "The Rise and Fall of ECW" dvd).
2) Vince is obsessed with physique. This fits with the larger guys, and if you've noticed, when people leave WWE, they get smaller because they're not forced to be in the gym ALL THE TIME. Christian looks emaciated compared to how he looked in WWE, Angle has lost, at least, 20-25 pounds since coming to TNA. In reverse of that, look at old footage of people like Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Triple H, etc. and look at how much muscle mass they GAINED since coming to WWE.
3) Storylines suck, but Hollywood writers writing wrestling storylines suck the passion out of watching. But, Vince believes that this is what WE, the fans, want.
4) A key that we fail to admit is commentators. JR and The King have been the standard bearers for the better part of 15 years. These men have been the propegators of said storylines, and let's be honest, Vince has left his stamp here as well. Vince is a fan of storytelling, not technique. ECW was popular, not only because of their passion for the sport, but, for the passion of their commentator (later, add an "s"). Joey Styles made fans feel like they were a part of the action with his excitement, and turned the simplest of fans into genuis' with his "vast" wrestling knowledge. JR and King aren't outdated, but we do need fresh mic talent (no, Taz and Adamle do not count).
Outside of those aspects, you are on the money (or mon-eyyyyyyyyyy, as Vince would say.).

I like your suggestions Jeff. I think you hit the nail on the head especially with #'s 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

I couldn't agree more. They need a complete overhaul for their writers.

WWE thinks the fans don't know the business! Bull! This hit the nail on the head!

no more 5minute main events

I agree with essentially every thing you said jeff, theres only one thing i would add, and that's mix up the main event. I know you said give different wrestlers a chance, but you didnt go into detail, there needs to be new people rotated in and out of the main event. The past three years it seems the only ppl to main event ppv's are Cena, Batista, Edge, HHH, RKO, and Taker. That's 6 guys, or three from each brand. You can't have an exciting main event if you just rotate the same three guys. Let a Hardy win the world title, or let Jericho or HBK reclaim the top spot. I don't want the same three guys.
