Does TNA have what it takes
by bergo on 4/13/08 4:44 AM
With lockdown approaching i was watching the origanal lockdown ppv from a 3 event set i bought a while ago and it made me ponder if TNA has what it takes to make a serious battle with the WWE.
When i compare TNA vs WWE to the monday night wars i see many similarities. WWE lost top billing talent to wcw but in exchange recieved under utilized talent. And through good storylines and development, regrew thier main event talent pool while WCW's was fizzling out to age.
TNA has a good crop of young stars that can carry the banner for years but it almost seems that some WWE stars wont hand the torch. E. young, AJ Styles, Samoa joe, petey williams, jay lethal, tomko, cage, LAX , sabin ,consequenses creed, kaz all have a long future still ahead of them and looking at some storylines shows the preperation and training for the future. in the words of terry funk, you have to get the next group ready for the business to continue.
the stiener/ lil petey pump angle is a good start. not to mention the push samoa joe is getting first with nash and now still with angle. look at the other matchups with youth vs experience, booker vs roode, e y & kaz vs black reign and rellik, motor city machineguns vs team 3d, and look at tomko, styles, storm, cage, and morgan mixing with sting, nash, team 3d at lockdown. this asks the question "who is better preparing for the future". I think the fued between youth and experience will work alot better than debut in squash matches against jobbers for months.
so, does TNA have what it takes in the long run?, i gotta say YES. assuming managment and writers dont drop the ball

That last line summarized this beautifully "...assuming management doesn't drop the ball." TNA has a BOATLOAD of young superstars, so does WWE. I like that you pointed out the difference in the debut impact that the individual wrestlers get in the two promotions. TNA debuts usually get put into a solid first program to help get them over and showcase them COMPETITIVELY. While WWE puts you out and lets you squash a jobber for a couple of weeks. It doesn't help young guys, it sets them up for a fall when they are made to look invincible and then they have to drop a match. The fans are like "..he lost to who, but he won 8 matches in a row...". So if you debut someone and let them start against an established talent and they win their first match of the program, then lose a TOUGH match, then come back with a win again it is more beneficial for the buil

...it is more beneficial for the build up. I don't know what happened to the last line, sorry.

The people saying that TNA will go out of business within a couple of years are being foolish and drinking too much of Vince's Kool-Aid. Panda Energy hasn't had to give TNA money in years, and TNA is actually expected to turn a profit this year. People who are saying TNA will be bought by WWE because that's what happened to WCW are being silly. The only reason why WCW had Vince buy it was because they thought that Vince would find a new network for Nitro - WCW would still be alive if that TBS president hadn't cancelled all Wrestling-themed programming on TBS and TNT programming out of fear that sponsors don't care about Wrestling.

Sponsors don't care about wrestling, I bet they are kicking themselves in the ass today!
From JamesP on 4/13/08 2:23 PM
Well, they do are, but the CEO thought that sponsors would be turned off by wrestling. For example, he felt that most wrestlers drove a bunch of shit pickup trucks, so he figured that because of that, car sponsors wouldn't advertise on Nitro.

To the sponsors: SUPRISE!
