A BIG Disappointment
by jeff on 8/17/08 12:26 AM
Summerslam. One of the WWE's big four pay-per-views of the year. Lets see we have the Great Khali vs. Triple H. We have to see a guy who couldn't wrestle even if his opponent is having a really bad day. I wonder who's going to win that match. We have John Cena vs. Batista. John Cena the man who can't wrestle for shit and has uncoordinated legs. He legs are so uncoordinated that he probably has to take some type of medicine just to stand up straight. Oh lets not forget about Batista. A man who can wrestle, but has used so much steriods that he might eventually explode. We also have Santino & Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James & Kofi Kingston. We have two hot women who can wrestle, but unfortunely we seen so much hot women who can't wrestle that I stop caring about the women's division along time ago. We have a man who has a unibrow that looks weird, but unfortunely he can barely wrestle. We have the IC champion Kofi Kingston who can wrestle, but it seems that he may have to job to Phoenix and Marella after the reports i'm hearing making the titles seem more worthless. We also have CM Punk vs. JBL. We got a man who came back after a 2 year hiatus who clearly has been eating two much because he has man boobs and CM Punk our World Champion who has to face this loser. We also have Jeff Hardy vs. MVP, Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy and the only match I care about Undertaker vs. Edge in a Hell in a Cell match. Why should I pay 40 or 50 dollars for this crappy card? Every match except one or maybe two (not John Cena vs. Batista) sounds crappy. Then again compared to last years Summerslam this card sounds spectacular. That's why I'm not ordering. I can see Taker vs. Edge on the internet. Technology is great isn't it. This is one of the big four pay-per-views this card should be better. Then again Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania wasn't that good either.
Lets see what we had at the Royal Rumble. Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton. A match overhyped to be good, but sucked when it actually happened. Chris Jericho vs. JBL. A match that began the demise of Chris Jericho's big return to the WWE. There was also Rey Mysterio vs. Edge. A match that could have been good, but instead this match was rushed. MVP vs. Ric Flair a match that should not have been on the card. It wasn't bad or anything, but I just didn't care for it. Of course the Royal Rumble itself. This is also the day I lost my hair. When John Cena returned I had to shave my head because me and my friend joked that if John Cena returned at the Rumble that we would shave our heads. Isn't this one of the big four pay-per-views?
And Wrestlemaina the biggest pay-per-view of the year. We had a match that was nothing, but a spotfest. We had a playboy bunny lumberjack match with one of the women who was so bad at wrestling that god almighty himself couldn't stand watching her wrestle anymore that he decided to turn off the lights for a brief moment. Unfortunely he realized that he couldn't see Melina his favorite women's wrestler so he decided that he must make a sacrifice by letting the match continue so he can watch Melina. We had Flair vs. Shawn Michaels a good emotional match. After that I didn't care about any other match except Taker vs. Edge because it didn't have that special feeling. When I was watching this I was saying this is Wrestlemaina every match should feel special. They should feel like a Wrestlemaina match. What the hell is going on? Isn't this one of the big four pay-per-views of the year?
The reason I keep asking that question because Summerslam, Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania and Survivor Series are always suppose to feel special. Sure every match doesn't have to be great, but every match should have a meaning. These four pay-per-views are usually the end of a rivalry or the start of rivalry. Not matches that are just thrown together. Even last years big four pay-per-views felt week. Survivor Series was good, but it didn't have that special big four pay-per-view feeling. Well I guess I shouldn't be surprised that these pay-per-views don't feel special anymore. They really stopped feeling special after 2004. Sure 2005 was good, but it didn't feel special to me. I guess it could be worse, but I just wish that the WWE would make the big four pay-per-views feel special again.

I think that was your best line ever Jeff nice going
And Survivor Series this year will probably be the best PPV unless they do something right with the Royal Rumble

Eh Jeff usually a fan of your writing but not so much this time. Your the first person I've heard to bash Wreestlemania. Really?? Did you watch the ppv? I, along with the majority of the wrestling community, found it fantastic and entertaining. Can't believe you said it didn't feel special!! You lost some points from me for that :-[
I also have to disagree aout the Royal Rumble being bad, but then again I can see where your comming from if John Cena returning ruined the actual Royal Rumble match for you. I found the match to e fantastic, and him returning was a major swerve, and I must admit I love when WWE swerves me. But once again. I have to disagree with you and say Royal Rumble was one of the three or four best pay per views from WWE this year.
As for the Summerslam card this year, I'll admit that it doesn't look SPECTACULAR, probably as ir should be, but it doesn't look bad either. I think it would look fine if Summerslam hasn't been promoted as one of the big payperviews in the past. But then again, the big payperviews used to be "big" because they included all three brands. Now EVERY payperview includes all three brands, so I think THAT is why the big payperviews have lost that special feeling to them.
SirWilliam.

I didn't say that Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble were bad. However the matches didn't have that special feeling as it used to. Royal Rumble was pretty average for me and so was Wrestlemania. I enjoyed a couple of matches at Wrestlemania, but only two felt like a Wrestlemania match.
theminister yes Batista can wrestle. Sure he isn't great and I think he is overrated, but he can wrestle.

I agree with jeff on pretty much everything he said.
Summerslam is a huge ppv. Everything on the card is thrown together. Now alot of that I think is due to the draft. Everything just got all refreshed. So I'm guessing that this summerslam is going to start some crazy shit feuds? Nahh, most likely its just the biggest last minute throw together ppv of the past few years.
JBL & PUNK is last minute. HHH and Khali is last minute and why the fuck it even happening. I'm not even aware of any other matches. There was 0 feud build to anything. WWE realized this so they were like fuck it ummm have Cena fight Batista...and make it for #1 contender so it like has meaning. And ummm oh yah! The undertaker & edge thing has been dead for awhile but we can still pull something out of that ass....and make it a hell in a cell! People love Hell in a Cell!
The only feud that has been ongoing and interesting towatch is Y2J & HBK...and I don't even think either of them are on the card for anything.

I think the Royal Rumble was great, I will agree with SIRWILLIAM that it was a huge swerve when Cena's returned as the number 30 entrant to the rumble. Triple H's face was priceless when Cena's music hit. The Rumble was ruined by having Cena win it but it was a good event none the less. Hey it was better than the Rumble that took place in 99' when it was pretty much based around the Austin McMahon feud having them go around the arena and Vince McMahon winning the entire thing. That had to be the worst ever.
Wrestlemania was great, the venue was awesome and most of the card was on point. My only complaints were that the card lacked any tag team title matches and that playboy bunny?s match was a joke. The Edge/ Taker match, great (wish Edge won but the streak lives on), Shawn Michaels (Mr. Wrestlemania himself) against Ric Flair was the nights best match, and the triple threat match with Cena, Orton and HHH was good also, and the ending to that match fit well with the heel coming out on top.
Now I didn?t get to see or hear much about the SummerSlam PPV so I can't really go and give my opinion about it. I'm hoping for a great card for the Survivor Series, I just wish that the WWE would incorporate more than one elimination style match like they did in the past for the PPV card.

Turns out Summerslam was a pleasant surprise rather than a big disappointment.

Royal Rumble - Not really the strongest card this year but, the Cena return totally shocked me and I like when WWE pulls that kind of thing out of their bag. The only other match that sticks out other than the Rumble is Orton-Hardy match. A good in-ring storyline if you ask me.
Wrestlemania - AMAZING venue. Hope that they can do more outdoor PPV like that. So many matches that could possibly be MOTY. The Money in The Bank, Undertaker-Edge and also Flair-HBK.
Summerslam - Decent, but not as strong as past years Summerslam. Still, it was better than last year's Summerslam. Hell in A Cell was pretty good, but sadly without any blood at all. Cena-Batista put up a good match for two big egos of the company.
Hope that Survivor Series will be a good PPV.
